A very long day.

Typical of the landscape today, flat, open, barren, no fences as far as you can see.

12th century caravanserai

Why are my feet blue? Could be the glamorous footware needed to get into the mausoleum.

Beautiful building.

Kev got quite excited about seeing some sheep, which bought rude and unecessary comments from the Australians.

A stunning shot taken from the moving bus.
This morning when we got on the bus it was 1 deg. Some bright spark from yesterday said it was going to be 27 deg so all those who believed him were frozen. I made the mistake of wearing sandals and no socks, so when we stopped at the first place I bought a pair of socks for 1.5 turkish lire which is about $1nzd. They are gr8 and kept my feet warm.

Today we are travelling from Cappodocia to Pamukkale. The roads are rough as guts and we are bouncing all over the place. Not sure how far that is but we left at 9am and got in about 7.15. We stopped at the mauseleum of philospher Mevlana. We also stopped at a 12th century caravanserai which is a place on the silk road where merchants could be safe for the night with their goods and animals.

I thought the bus driver was pretty good but boy we saw some things today. He drove all those hours himself, probably about 8 hours driving. We saw cars on the wrong side of the motorway, buses and trucks passing on the left without a lane, our driver passing a truck and a bus (together) on a blind bend. The drivers, male!, hate being passed and often they will pass each other several times to see who can win the race. The last hour or more was in the dark and on steep narrow roads. I think we were all praying by the time we got here. Is 10.45 now, too late for turkish bath, off to bed.

Sad news about the Turkish soldiers killed in an attack on the Iraq border today. Estimates of the casualties range from 20-50. It is a long way from us and we are safe and well.
